A tragic incident unfolded in Houston Tuesday morning as a Harris County Precinct 4 deputy was shot and killed while on his way to work. The deputy, identified as Maher Husseini, had been serving with Precinct 4 since 2021 and had recently been promoted. The news of his untimely death was withheld until his wife could be notified.

According to Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, the incident took place at the intersection of Richmond Ave. and Fondren Rd. Husseini was stopping at a red light in his personal vehicle when an unknown assailant approached and began shooting into his car. The shooting was reported at around 12:45 p.m.

Reportedly, the gunman initially fled after shooting at Husseini but returned to the scene to fire additional shots before making a final escape. It remains unclear whether Husseini was wearing his full uniform at the time, though he had his uniform pants and gun belt on.

The Houston Police Department received a 911 call from a witness who witnessed the shooting. While the motive behind the attack is yet to be confirmed, authorities speculate that it may be a case of road rage. The Houston Police Department is actively searching for the suspect near the intersection where the shooting occurred, but there are currently no leads and nobody in custody.

Described as a male of Asian or Middle Eastern descent, aged between 35 and 40, the suspect is known to have dark and partially bald hair, standing approximately 5'9" tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He was potentially wearing a grey top and dark pants during the crime.

Updates reveal that the suspect has since been apprehended in the Galveston area due to successful tracking efforts. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement urges anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.

The news of the deputy's murder and his identification were initially made public on the Facebook page of the Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner. The Commissioner, Lesley Briones, expressed deep sorrow and condemned the senseless act of violence, extending prayers to the deputy's family and the entire law enforcement community.

Constable Herman rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, located in southern Houston, to support the fallen deputy's family during this devastating time. The hospital witnessed a growing presence of law enforcement personnel following the tragic incident.

As this story continues to develop, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
