In a series of roster moves, the Guardians have made significant changes to their pitching staff. The team announced the official signing of Matthew Boyd to a Major League deal, a positive step forward for the left-hander as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery. However, Boyd's stint on the 15-day injured list was also confirmed.

Meanwhile, right-hander Eli Morgan has been activated from the 15-day IL, providing the Guardians with a much-needed boost. Morgan, who made his debut as a starter in 2021, has thrived since transitioning to the bullpen. He has achieved an impressive 3.54 ERA in 145 innings for the Guardians between 2022 and 2024. This year, he has particularly excelled with a remarkable 1.64 ERA in 11 innings pitched. However, it is important to note that his secondary metrics, including an 11.1% walk rate and a 15.6% strikeout rate, indicate room for improvement. Despite this, Morgan's recovery from a month-long elbow inflammation issue suggests he may be able to further enhance his performance on the mound.

On the other hand, righty Darren McCaughan has been optioned to Triple-A, while righty Zak Kent has been designated for assignment. McCaughan's departure from the major league roster provides an opportunity for him to refine his skills in the minors, while Kent finds himself on the brink of potentially being moved to the big league 60-day IL. Kent, who was acquired by the Guardians from the Rangers earlier this year, is yet to make his proper on-field debut in the MLB. Although he has shown promise with solid minor league numbers, including a commendable 2.73 ERA over 66 career Triple-A innings, injuries have plagued his last three seasons.

The Guardians' recent roster moves demonstrate their commitment to optimizing their pitching staff. With Boyd officially signed and Morgan returning from the IL, the team aims to strengthen their rotation and bolster their bullpen. Fans eagerly await the impact these changes will have on the Guardians' performance as they continue their campaign in the Major League.
