In a shocking turn of events, the Kenyan police have made a morbid discovery in the capital city of Nairobi. On Saturday, authorities uncovered five bags filled with the dismembered remains of multiple women at a rubbish dump. This follows the finding of six other women's corpses in sacks floating amidst the sea of garbage in the Mukuru slum.

Amidst speculations of cult-related or serial killings, concerns have arisen regarding potential police involvement in these gruesome deaths. The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) revealed that it is investigating any possible connection between the police force and these horrific homicides. The dump site's proximity to a local police station has raised suspicions, particularly considering the widespread allegations of police misconduct during recent anti-government protests.

These allegations of human rights abuses have emerged in the midst of protests against planned tax increases. Human rights groups claim that police have used excessive force, shooting and killing numerous protesters while abducting and arbitrarily arresting hundreds more. Both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have previously accused the Kenyan police force of political interference hindering accountability for such abuses.

Local media reports indicate that the police deployed water cannons to the scene of the discoveries as angry protesters threatened to open the bags containing human remains. However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has called for calm, urging the public to grant them space to conduct thorough investigations.

President William Ruto, facing mounting pressure, assured the nation that those responsible for these shocking killings will be held accountable. In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), he emphasized Kenya's commitment to the rule of law and pledged to ensure justice for the victims.

This alarming case is reminiscent of a similar incident in Kenya last year, where the remains of hundreds of people linked to a doomsday cult were found in the coastal town of Malindi. The cult leader is alleged to have encouraged starvation as a means to "meet Jesus," resulting in one of the gravest cult-related massacres in history.

As investigations continue, Kenya grapples with the unsettling reality of these heinous murders. The authorities face immense pressure to uncover the truth, establish accountability, and address the underlying concerns of police brutality and abuse of power.
