The spokesperson revealed that Spartz has been accused of violating a section of Virginia law that prohibits the carrying of firearms, explosives, or stun weapons into an air carrier airport terminal.
As the news broke, CNN reached out to Spartz's office for comment, but there has been no response as of yet. It has been reported that Spartz has been issued a summons to appear in a Virginia court, by the Metropolitan Airports Authority spokesperson.
Spartz, who became the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress, was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020. She quickly emerged as a prominent Republican voice regarding a robust U.S. response to Russia's invasion. However, earlier this year, she drew attention for opposing a foreign aid package that included $61 billion for Ukraine.
The details surrounding the weapons violation at the airport remain undisclosed at this time. As the story develops, more information is expected to come to light.
