In a recent interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, unleashed criticism towards former Maryland governor Larry Hogan. Hogan, who is vying for a Senate seat in Maryland, had urged Americans to "respect" the verdict in the hush money trial involving Donald Trump.

During the interview, Lara Trump expressed her disagreement with Hogan's stance, stating that he "doesn't deserve the respect" of any Republican for his comments. Hogan's role as a Senate candidate holds significant importance for the GOP, as it represents one of their best opportunities to regain control of the chamber.

Lara Trump's comments came in response to a social media post by Hogan before the jury verdict was delivered, where he called for respecting the verdict and the legal process. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and avoiding further divisive partisanship. However, Lara Trump labeled Hogan's statement as "ridiculous."

When asked if the RNC would withhold funding from Hogan's Senate campaign, Lara Trump did not provide a direct answer, stating that she would need to follow up on the specifics regarding monetary support. Nonetheless, she made her disapproval of Hogan's remarks clear, emphasizing that he should not have made such a statement.

Spokespeople for Hogan's campaign have yet to respond to Lara Trump's criticism. However, Chris LaCivita, a senior advisor to Trump's presidential campaign, wasted no time in attacking Hogan, stating that his campaign had effectively ended due to his message.

Hogan, a popular former governor in the predominantly Democratic state of Maryland, is recognized for his willingness to work across party lines. His success in the Senate race against Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic primary winner, is vital for the GOP's bid to seize control of the Senate. Presently, Democrats hold a slim majority in the chamber, and the upcoming November elections present an opportunity for shifts in the balance of power.

During the CNN interview, Lara Trump implied that Hogan's attempt to quell negative reactions to the verdict might not resonate with the voters he needs to win over. She highlighted the rapid outpouring of support in the form of $70 million in digital fundraising for Trump and Republicans within 48 hours of the former president's verdict (fundraising figures yet to be verified). Lara Trump interpreted this response as an expression of widespread dissatisfaction among the American people.

As the RNC co-chair, Lara Trump's criticism of a Republican senatorial candidate raises questions about the party's support for Hogan's campaign. The extent to which the RNC will provide financial backing remains uncertain, as Lara Trump did not provide a concrete answer during the interview.
