**Georgia Receiver Colbie Young Arrested on Battery Charges**
Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young, a resident of Binghamton, New York, was arrested early Tuesday morning at 4:18 a.m. ET. Young faces misdemeanor charges of battery and assault of an unborn child, as documented in the records of the Athens-Clarke County Jail.
Georgia athletics department spokesman Steven Drummond commented on the matter stating, "This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time," according to ESPN.
Details regarding the incident were revealed in an Athens-Clarke County Police report obtained by ESPN. According to the report, a 20-year-old woman, who identified herself as Young's ex-girlfriend, visited his apartment around midnight to discuss their relationship. During the conversation, tensions escalated when the woman discovered Young was conversing with another woman on the phone. She reported that Young "grabbed her left arm near her biceps and triceps and physically pulled her out of his room," while using derogatory language.
As the woman was gathering her belongings, she received a call from a friend. She told the police that Young then "grabbed her from behind, picked her up, and squeezed her torso and abdomen very hard," making her feel that he intended to harm her. The police officer on the scene observed a bruise and discoloration on her chest and redness on her right side. The woman was transported to an Athens hospital for treatment.
In his interview with the police, Young denied causing the injuries. He claimed he had escorted the woman to the front door once their conversation became heated and denied any physical altercation.
Young's attorney, Kim Stephens, defended his client, telling ESPN, "Colbie Young was arrested last night after he asked his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment. He did not make physical contact with her in any way that could ever be considered a crime. I expect Mr. Young to be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth revealed."
This incident follows the dismissal of former Bulldogs receiver Rodarius "Rara" Thomas on August 1 after he was arrested on multiple family violence charges. At the time, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said, "He can no longer be part of the football team. He understands that. We wish him the best moving forward." Thomas, from Eufaula, Alabama, faces charges including cruelty to children-family violence and two counts of battery-family violence, with his case still pending in Athens-Clarke County Superior Court.
