In a thrilling season opener, Georgia Tech pulled off a stunning upset by defeating No. 10 Florida State in a nail-biter of a game. Aidan Birr emerged as the hero with a 44-yard field goal as time expired, securing a 24-21 victory for the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles entered the game with high expectations after an undefeated regular season. However, with a revamped roster, they faced a determined Georgia Tech team that proved to be a formidable opponent. Despite trailing for most of the game, Florida State fought back to tie the score at 21 with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The turning point came when DJ Uiagalelei, making his debut for Florida State, orchestrated a 15-play touchdown drive that included two impressive fourth-down conversions. But unfortunately for the Seminoles, they never got the chance to touch the ball again.

With just five seconds left on the clock, Aidan Birr stepped up and delivered a flawless kick, sealing the remarkable triumph for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets' victory was made possible by a dominant performance on the ground, with Jamal Haynes running for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Haynes King also played a key role, throwing for 146 yards and adding 54 yards on the ground. Georgia Tech's ability to control the line of scrimmage allowed them to accumulate 190 rushing yards, averaging an impressive 5.3 yards per carry.

On the other side, DJ Uiagalelei showcased his talent by completing 19 of 27 passes for 193 yards, but his stellar performance couldn't prevent a disappointing outcome for the Seminoles in his first appearance for the team.

The game was not short of highlights, as Ryan Fitzgerald made history with a sensational 59-yard field goal just before halftime, tying the game at 14. This marked his career-long kick and became the second-longest field goal in the school's history. Fitzgerald had already displayed his accuracy earlier in the game with a 52-yard field goal.

The teams were evenly matched, with each having just seven possessions throughout the game. However, it was Georgia Tech's final two drives that proved decisive. An 11-play, 89-yard touchdown drive put them back in the lead, followed by a determined 12-play, 49-yard drive that set up Aidan Birr's game-winning field goal.

The game drew an enthusiastic crowd of Florida State fans, who filled Aviva Stadium for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. This marked the third consecutive year that Dublin hosted a Week 0 opener, adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event.

This unexpected victory for Georgia Tech serves as a promising start to their season, while Florida State now faces the challenge of regrouping and rebounding from this setback. Fans and pundits eagerly await the next chapter in college football as the season continues to unfold.
