**Record-Breaking Early Voter Turnout in Georgia as Key 2024 Election Approaches**
In a significant development for one of the most crucial battleground states in the upcoming 2024 election, Georgia has seen over 1.4 million residents cast their ballots early. This surge in early voting has been breaking records since voting began on Tuesday.
As of Monday morning, Georgia's state elections website reported that 1,347,843 votes were cast in person, while just over 80,000 absentee ballots have been returned and accepted. Gabriel Sterling, the Chief Operating Officer in Georgia's Secretary of State's office, highlighted the remarkable participation on social media, noting that as of Sunday afternoon, over 25,000 Georgians had voted that day, surpassing the previous Sunday record of 24,000 set in 2022. The final count for Sunday reached an impressive 42,400 votes, nearly doubling last year's number.
The enthusiasm was immediately evident on the first day of early voting, with more than 313,000 Georgians casting in-person ballots—a remarkable 123% increase over the previous Day 1 record. So far, the early voting turnout represents nearly 20% of Georgia's active voter population.
Currently, white voters comprise the largest share of those who have voted early, followed by black voters. Additionally, Georgia women have outnumbered men in early voting, with a ratio of 55.4% to 45.4%.
Georgia's importance in the high-stakes race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is evident by the significant efforts both parties are investing in the state. President Biden's narrow win by less than 1% in 2020 has only intensified the focus on Georgia. This week, Trump is set to participate in a religious event in Pike County to support congressional candidate Brian Jack, who served in his first administration.
