In a shocking turn of events, the Florida State Seminoles have secured a commitment from talented four-star wide receiver, Malik Clark. The announcement came during a commitment ceremony on Thursday, where Clark revealed his decision to choose FSU over North Carolina and South Carolina.
Leading up to the decision, the Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports favored the South Carolina Gamecocks for Clark. However, the Seminoles pulled off a surprise victory, leaving both rival schools behind. When asked about his choice, Clark cited the opportunity to compete for a national championship as the decisive factor in selecting FSU.
FSU's receivers coach, Ron Dugans, played a significant role in Clark's recruitment, while off-field assistant DJ Daniels also contributed to the efforts in bringing Clark to Tallahassee. The Seminoles managed to enter the recruitment race by offering Clark a scholarship in May. Within a span of just two months, FSU successfully persuaded him to join their recruiting class.
Clark, ranked as the nation's No. 213 overall prospect and No. 24 wide receiver, embarked on official visits to FSU, UNC, and South Carolina back in June. The Seminoles hosted him from June 14-16, and their efforts ultimately paid off.
The addition of Clark makes him the third highly-regarded wide receiver to commit to FSU, joining Daylan McCutcheon from Lovejoy, Texas and CJ Wiley from Milton, Georgia.
During his junior year at Rock Hill, Clark showcased his skills, catching 46 passes for 800 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also had the opportunity to showcase his versatility by playing some snaps as a cornerback on defense. His impressive performance earned him a spot as an All-Herald second-team selection.
Beyond football, Clark is an exceptional track athlete. At the South Carolina 5A state meet, he secured third place in the 100-meter dash with a remarkable time of 10.62 seconds. He also claimed victory in the 5A Upper State title, clocking in at 10.55 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Standing just over 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 pounds, Clark possesses a lethal combination of size and speed. His exceptional athleticism was further demonstrated during testing, where he recorded impressive numbers at the Under Armour Next camp circuit. Notably, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, completed the short shuttle in 4.31 seconds, and posted a broad jump of 122.5 inches.
Clark's strengths lie in his ability to attack downfield, using his speed to create separation and keep defenders on their toes. While he could refine his footwork for better efficiency, he displays a knack for locating the football and securing catches. Additionally, adding more mass to his frame would enhance his effectiveness in contested situations and bolster his blocking skills.
Overall, Clark is viewed as a potential impact player at the Power Four level, with aspirations for a future in the NFL. While he may require some time to adjust, he is considered one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle, showcasing his ability to challenge coverages at multiple levels.
The commitment of Malik Clark to the Florida State Seminoles adds another talented piece to their recruiting class and strengthens their pursuit of future success on the field.
