In a devastating incident on Long Island, an off-duty NYPD police officer, identified as Emilia Rennhack, lost her life along with three others when a vehicle crashed into a nail salon. The tragic incident occurred on Friday at a salon on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park.

Officer Emilia Rennhack, 30 years old, was inside the nail salon getting her nails done for an upcoming wedding when a reportedly intoxicated driver plowed his minivan into the shop. Officer Rennhack, who served at the Queens 102nd Precinct alongside her detective husband, tragically lost her life in the incident.

The Police Benevolent Association expressed their grief and shared the news of Officer Rennhack's passing on Facebook, urging prayers for her family, friends, and colleagues. Funeral arrangements for Officer Rennhack will be announced in due course.

The driver responsible for the crash has been identified as 64-year-old Steven Schwally from Dix Hills. Schwally was allegedly driving a 2020 Chevy Traverse when he smashed through the storefront around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Customers and employees inside the salon were left trapped following the carnage.

According to Newsday, Schwally was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). He was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries and will face arraignment at a later date, as reported by Patch.

The incident left the glass storefront completely shattered, and the salon's ceiling collapsed due to the impact. Speaking about the victims, Deer Park Third Assistant Chief Dominic Albanese expressed his sorrow, stating that they were trapped inside the salon. He described the situation as horrific and acknowledged the challenge it posed to the community and the volunteer fire department.

Currently, additional charges against Schwally are pending, according to the authorities. Further investigations into the incident are underway to shed more light on the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic crash.

The loss of Officer Emilia Rennhack and the three others in this terrible incident has left the community mourning. As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to bringing justice for the victims and their families who have been affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
