In a terrifying incident early Sunday morning, a fire truck veered off Interstate 345 and crashed onto DART Tracks below, leaving four Dallas firefighters injured. The accident occurred at the intersection of Interstate 345 and South Good Latimer Expressway, as reported by officials.
According to a release from the authorities, the firefighters were swiftly transported to Baylor University Medical Center for medical treatment. Thankfully, all four firefighters are reported to be in stable condition.
In the aftermath of the crash, several major roadways and DART services have been temporarily shut down. Affected areas include portions of Interstate 345, South Good Latimer Expressway, Routh Street, and the DART rail system. Power and DART services in the Central Business District have been disrupted as a result of the incident.
DART has stated that train services at six stations - Cityplace/Uptown, Deep Ellum, Pearl/Arts District, West End, EBJ/Union, and Victory - have come to a halt. To assist passengers with their journeys, bus shuttles have been deployed as a replacement for the affected rail services. DART personnel are available at stations to provide support and guidance to passengers during this disruption.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is being led by the Dallas Police. Once the investigation is concluded, DART will commence the necessary repairs. However, repairing the severe damage to the DART system is expected to take a significant amount of time.
Passengers are advised to anticipate substantial delays and to follow instructions from signage and DART personnel throughout this period of repair and recovery.
The cause of the accident remains unknown at this time, and it is unclear whether other vehicles were involved. WFAA will continue to monitor this developing story and provide further updates as more information becomes available.
