In a startling development, the woman who accused former WWE CEO Vince McMahon of sexual misconduct has agreed to pause her lawsuit against him, as per a request from the Justice Department. Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, had filed a 67-page suit in January, alleging that McMahon coerced her into a sexual relationship to retain her job and shared explicit content of her with other men at the company.

Grant's attorney, Ann Callis, confirmed to ABC News that her client had consented to the request made by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York to stay the case against McMahon, the WWE, and former executive John Laurinaitis. This pause is in relation to a pending non-public investigation. Callis stated that they would cooperate with all appropriate next steps.

The lawsuit leveled serious accusations against McMahon, including claims of "psychological torture and physical violence" alongside "depraved sexual demands." It also alleged that McMahon trafficked Grant to other WWE employees. The legal filing contained graphic descriptions of alleged sexual encounters and explicit text messages. The suit also named Laurinaitis as a defendant.

McMahon, who is 78 years old, stepped down as CEO in 2022 and subsequently resigned from his role as TKO executive chairman and his position on the company's board of directors in January. TKO was created after the merger of WWE and UFC last year.

According to the information made available, Grant had previously signed a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) in 2022, which was connected to an agreement for McMahon to pay her $3 million. The WWE initiated a board investigation that same year after receiving an anonymous tip about the improper relationship. Grant alleged that McMahon only paid $1 million and subsequently stopped making further payments. She now seeks to nullify the NDA and claim unspecified financial damages.

It is worth noting that McMahon briefly retired from WWE in July 2022 after it was revealed that multiple payouts had been made to various women connected to sexual misconduct allegations. An external law firm conducted an internal investigation that uncovered $14.6 million in payments made by McMahon.

In a statement released in January following his resignation, McMahon vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that Grant's lawsuit was filled with falsehoods, fabricated incidents, and a distorted portrayal of the truth. He expressed his determination to vigorously defend himself against the baseless accusations and looked forward to clearing his name.

As the case against Vince McMahon pauses pending the undisclosed investigation, the future of this high-profile lawsuit remains uncertain. Both McMahon and Grant await further developments as they prepare to address the serious allegations levied against the former WWE CEO.
