In a shocking turn of events, former Seattle Police officer Dan Auderer is finally breaking his silence regarding his termination after controversial comments made during a response in January 2023 were caught on body camera footage. Auderer's remarks, which caused international outrage, included the statement, "She was 26 anyway. She had limited value." The public's call for his termination became deafening, leading to his firing by Interim Police Chief Sue Rahr in July.

During an interview with conservative talk show host Jason Rantz on KTTH, Auderer expressed his deep regret over the comments he made, insisting that they were taken out of context and that he never intended to mock the death of the person referred to as "Kandula." According to Auderer, who served as the vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, his termination had more to do with his high-ranking position within the union. He accused the Office of Police Accountability and the Seattle Community Police Commission of spearheading the release of the video and subsequent investigation into his conduct as an attack on the union.

"It was not only my career, but it was a way of life for me," Auderer lamented, highlighting the personal toll his termination has taken. Expressing remorse for the pain inflicted upon Kandula's family, Auderer vowed that the weight of the situation would never leave his soul. He went on to assert that his experience and exposure to various incidents during his tenure as a police officer had instilled in him a deep respect for human life.

While Auderer awaits a response from the Office of Police Accountability, the Seattle Community Police Commission, and Mike Solan, president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, KIRO 7 has reached out for comments. No responses have been received at the time of writing.

This revelation serves as a reminder of the importance for law enforcement officials to exercise caution and sensitivity when addressing sensitive matters. The repercussions of Auderer's comments highlight the significant impact that public perception and accountability can have on those entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the law.
