### Former President Faces Skeptical Voter During Univision Town Hall

In a recent Univision town hall, former President Trump was confronted by a former supporter, Ramiro Gonzales, with a series of pointed questions. Gonzales, once a registered Republican, cited several reasons for his change of heart, specifically referencing Trump's handling of the Capitol riot on January 6, the coronavirus pandemic, and the lack of support from former Trump administration officials for a second term.

Gonzales’ disillusionment was palpable as he questioned Trump's actions and inactions. He pointed to the delay in Trump's response to the Capitol attack, the misleading public information during the COVID-19 crisis, and the notable defection of key Cabinet members from Trump’s orbit, including his own Vice President, Mike Pence.

In response, Trump minimized the dissent, claiming that 97% of his administration remains supportive of him. He defended his actions on January 6, suggesting the crowd gathered due to concerns about election fraud rather than his own incitement. Trump emphasized his directive to the crowd to act "peacefully and patriotically," a term he used during his speech at the Ellipse. However, he dismissed the gravity of the events, characterizing the day as a "day of love" despite the violent actions that followed.

Trump's record on January 6 continues to draw criticism. He faced backlash for his tweet during the riot, accusing Pence of lacking courage to protect the country. The former Defense Secretary, Mark Esper, labeled Trump a "threat to democracy," while former national security adviser, John Bolton, and Pence himself have openly criticized him. Pence, who was under immense pressure from Trump to reject the Electoral College results, ultimately refused and had to be evacuated from the Senate as rioters stormed the Capitol, chanting threats against him.

Other former Trump officials, like John Kelly, have also voiced concerns. Kelly has described Trump in stark terms, accusing him of having admiration for autocrats and disrespect for democratic institutions and the rule of law.

The town hall highlighted the persistent divisions within the Republican Party and underscored the challenges Trump might face in regaining the trust of disaffected voters like Gonzales. While Trump continues to assert his innocence and criticize his detractors, the lasting impact of his presidency, especially his actions surrounding January 6, remains a contentious issue.
