Former "Jon & Kate Plus 8" reality star, Collin Gosselin, has revealed that his dreams of serving in the United States Marine Corps were shattered due to his previous institutionalization. After enlisting in the Marines following his high school graduation last year, Collin's aspirations were cut short when it was discovered that he had been institutionalized in the past.

Collin shared with Entertainment Tonight that he was no longer part of the Marine Corps, stating, "I was discharged... It was towards the end of training, very close to graduating." He further explained that the decision to discharge him was not based on any deeper reason but simply on the fact that he had been institutionalized at one point in his life.

Representatives for both the Gosselins and the USMC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment regarding the situation.

Collin's journey to enlist in the Marines began during the airing of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" on TLC from 2007-09, which followed the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children. Following the couple's divorce, the show was rebranded as "Kate Plus 8," which ran until 2017. During filming, Collin began to act out and rebel, sometimes giving silent interviews and refusing to interact.

At 12 years old, Collin was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder and sent to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric hospital located in Philadelphia. Kate Gosselin, who had full custody at the time, made the decision to institutionalize him to "protect her reputation." Collin expressed to Entertainment Tonight that he was unaware of his situation and felt scared during this period.

Collin's discharge from the Marine Corps has not deterred him from pursuing his dream of serving in the military. He is actively appealing the decision, hoping for a chance to fulfill his ambition. In the meantime, he has plans to attend Penn State to major in finance, allowing him to stay close to his father and sister Hannah.

Collin also shared that there could be a possibility of him returning to reality television, although it may not be on a full-time basis. While he looks forward to embarking on his own path, he acknowledges that he and his family will miss being around each other.

As Collin navigates this new chapter in his life, he remains hopeful for a future where he can serve his country and continue to pursue his dreams.
