A retired Greensboro police officer, Tracy Fulk, was taken aback when she learned that Ryan Wesley Routh was the individual arrested over the weekend for his alleged involvement in the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Fulk vividly remembered encountering Routh over 20 years ago when she pulled him over for driving without a license.

According to Fulk, Routh had a history of multiple arrests for various infractions. In fact, NBC News reported that he faced more than 100 criminal counts in North Carolina. The news of the assassination attempt triggered memories for many former law enforcement officers in Greensboro who recognized Routh from their encounters with him.

Routh had been on the radar of local law enforcement due to his previous involvement with explosive devices. Fulk recalled that their bomb team had dealt with him in the past, leading the authorities to keep a close eye on him. In her own encounter with Routh in 2002, Fulk noticed him carrying a gun in his duffle bag during a traffic stop. When she ordered him to show his hands, Routh instead drove off to his roofing business and barricaded himself inside. He later surrendered and was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, driving without a valid license, and obstructing law enforcement.

Fulk emphasized that Routh's possession of firearms was a recurring issue during their interactions. She remembered Routh driving a small pickup truck, knowing that he lacked a valid driver's license, and seeing him with guns every time they crossed paths. She further noted that Routh was even known to be armed and potentially dangerous, making him a person of interest to Greensboro law enforcement.

After the recent assassination attempt, Routh was spotted with an AK-style rifle at Trump's golf course by Secret Service agents, who subsequently fired at him. Routh managed to flee the scene but was subsequently apprehended on I-95, approximately 40 miles away from the golf course. He now faces charges for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Fulk, who is now retired and works as a realtor, mentioned that Routh was surprisingly polite during their interactions at the jail following his arrest. With Routh's extensive record, which included multiple arrests in 2001-2002 and a conviction for possessing stolen goods in 2010, it becomes clear that his encounters with the law spanned a significant period of time.

This shocking revelation of Routh's alleged involvement in the second assassination attempt on former President Trump has left Fulk and many other law enforcement officers in Greensboro with vivid memories of dealing with him in the past. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and aware of potential threats to public safety.
