In a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Rudy Giuliani and two former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the women have filed a lawsuit on Friday to seize Giuliani's assets. The move aims to enforce the $148 million defamation verdict won by Freeman and Moss against the former New York City mayor.
Following the dismissal of Giuliani's bankruptcy case by a judge, Freeman and Moss, who are among his largest creditors, have been granted the opportunity to pursue his assets. The two women emerged victorious in a defamation lawsuit last year, in which they proved that Giuliani falsely accused them of committing election fraud during the 2020 election.
If Freeman and Moss are successful in their efforts to seize Giuliani's assets and put him into receivership, it would mark another significant blow to his already dwindling legal standing. Giuliani has faced a series of setbacks recently, including the loss of the defamation case, an indictment in Arizona related to a fake elector case in April, and his disbarment in New York in July.
Lawyers representing Freeman and Moss argue that the seizure of assets and implementation of receivership are necessary due to Giuliani's consistent refusal to comply with court orders and the judgment against him. They state that Giuliani's evasion, obstruction, and outright disobedience have left them with no choice but to take legal action to enforce their rights.
Responding to the move, a spokesperson for Giuliani, Ted Goodman, expressed disappointment, claiming that the justice system has been weaponized for "partisan political purposes" against both Giuliani and others. Goodman also criticized the $148 million verdict as objectively unreasonable and underscored that the appeal process is yet to be heard.
The legal battle between Giuliani and the two Georgia election workers continues to draw attention as the women persist in their pursuit of justice. With the latest attempt to seize Giuliani's assets and put him into receivership, the outcome of this high-stakes legal drama remains uncertain.
