In a troubling turn of events, former Detroit Lions player and current Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle, Isaiah Buggs, is facing serious legal troubles for the second time this offseason. Buggs was arrested over the weekend on charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary. Although he was initially released, the revocation of his bond from previous animal cruelty charges has left him potentially facing jail time.
The Alabama native had previously faced accusations of second-degree animal cruelty earlier in May. Authorities discovered two abandoned and neglected dogs at his residence, and sadly, one of them had to be euthanized. Buggs turned himself in at the time and was released on bond shortly after.
However, prosecutors in the case have now taken action to revoke Buggs' bond, as he violated the condition of not committing any new crimes. On Monday, a county district judge ordered Buggs to be held without bond. As of now, Buggs has not yet been booked back into custody.
The details surrounding Buggs' most recent incident remain undisclosed, apart from the fact that it occurred after Tuscaloosa officers responded to a 911 call around 5:28 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Buggs' agent had previously denied the charges of animal cruelty and accused the Tuscaloosa Police Department of engaging in a deliberate effort to tarnish Buggs' reputation. In a statement, the agent mentioned a possible connection between the charges and the local business, Kings Hookah Lounge, presumably owned by Buggs.
The Detroit Lions released Buggs late last season due to his decline in performance and the need to accommodate players returning from injuries. Buggs then joined the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad and was part of the team's journey to the Super Bowl, although he did not see any on-field action.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs have yet to make an official statement regarding Buggs' ongoing legal situation. It remains to be seen how these charges will impact his career and future with the team. As the legal process unfolds, Buggs' fate hangs in the balance, with potential consequences that could severely impact his professional and personal life.
