In a surprising turn of events, former Denver Broncos Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis was detained over the weekend after an incident occurred on a United Airlines flight. The flight, which was en route from Denver to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, resulted in Davis being taken into custody by FBI agents.
Explaining the situation on social media after his release, Davis expressed his disbelief over the events that unfolded onboard the plane. According to Davis, he tapped a flight attendant on the arm in an attempt to seek assistance for a family member seated next to him. However, he claims the flight attendant responded rudely, prompting him to describe the encounter as "traumatizing."
The FBI's Los Angeles office did not disclose Davis' name directly in their official statement. However, they confirmed that their agents, assisted by local police in Orange County, responded to a reported incident onboard the flight, which required further investigation. The unnamed individual involved was cooperative with law enforcement and was subsequently released to continue their travels.
Speaking about the incident, Davis emphasized that he was traveling with his wife and their three children. He recounted how, during beverage service, his son politely requested a cup of ice. When the flight attendant ignored or failed to hear the request, Davis lightly tapped his arm to gain his attention. According to Davis, the flight attendant loudly exclaimed, "Don't hit me," before relocating to a different part of the aircraft. Davis maintained that the attendant's accusations were baseless and that he refrained from interacting with him for the duration of the flight.
As the passengers were preparing to disembark, the captain instructed everyone to remain seated, after which law enforcement officers boarded the plane. Davis was handcuffed and escorted off the aircraft without being provided with a reason for his detainment, leaving him bewildered.
Following questioning at the airport, Davis was informed by the FBI that they agreed with his account of the incident. They issued an apology to him and subsequently released him. However, Davis expressed feelings of humiliation, embarrassment, powerlessness, and anger over the ordeal.
Unwilling to accept the situation silently, Davis spoke out against United Airlines, vowing to hold them accountable for what he believes was a "disgusting display of injustice" and "deplorable treatment." He demanded a thorough investigation into the flight attendant's actions, alleging that they had fabricated false accusations that caused harm to him and his family.
CBS Colorado has reached out to United Airlines for a response to Davis' statement. Davis also stated that his legal team is in contact with the company to address the matter further.
The aftermath of this incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges surrounding air travel and the need for comprehensive investigations into such incidents to ensure justice and fairness for all parties involved.
