Former Boston Red Sox Player among 27 Arrested in Child Predator Sting Operation
Jacksonville, Florida - Austin Maddox, a former Boston Red Sox player, was arrested on Monday as part of a five-day child predator sting operation conducted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The operation, known as Operation Valiant Knights, involved the collaboration of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and resulted in the arrest of 27 men.
According to the arrest report, Maddox, 33 years old, initiated communication with an individual he believed to be an underage girl on April 28. Despite being informed that the girl was only 14 years old, Maddox allegedly expressed his intent to engage in sexual activities with her. He agreed to meet the girl at a predetermined location.
Law enforcement officers were present at the meeting spot and took Maddox into custody. Initially resisting arrest, Maddox was tackled by the officers as he attempted to enter a nearby residence. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office shared a video showing the arrest, highlighting the moment when Maddox was apprehended.
Maddox is now facing four felony charges, including the act of traveling to meet a child following the use of a computer to solicit a minor. He is currently being held in jail on a bond set at $300,000.
Operation Valiant Knights, a joint effort between law enforcement agencies and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, aims to identify and apprehend individuals who seek to engage in illegal activities involving minors. The successful apprehension of Maddox and the other 26 individuals is a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and protection of young children from potential harm.
