In a recent announcement, Ford Motor has initiated a recall for a significant number of vehicles, involving 456,565 Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks. The reason behind the recall is a potential failure in detecting a low battery charge, which could result in a loss of engine and electrical power while driving.

The recall affects specific models, including the 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles, as stated in a notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website on Wednesday. Ford explained in its documents submitted to the U.S. safety regulator that the failure of the vehicles' body and power train control modules to detect a sudden degradation in the cars' 12-volt battery charge could lead to the inability to restart after an auto start/stop event or cause a stall while coming to a stop at a low speed.

To address this issue, Ford has announced that dealers will recalibrate the control modules free of charge. The company plans to notify affected owners through mail starting on May 13, according to the information posted by the NHTSA. If owners have any questions or concerns, they can contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. The specific recall number for this issue by Ford is 24S24, while the NHTSA Campaign Number is 24V267000.

Interestingly, this recall follows closely on the heels of another recent recall by Ford. Just a week ago, the automaker had to recall nearly 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to the possibility of gas leaks that could potentially lead to fires. Back in January, Ford also recalled approximately 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks over concerns regarding a rear axle hub that could break off, resulting in power loss or unintended movement when in the parked position.

These recalls highlight Ford's commitment to addressing any potential safety issues promptly. It is essential for owners of the affected Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks to take action and have their vehicles inspected and recalibrated as necessary to ensure their safety on the roads.
