HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night in Hillsborough County, Florida, when a 19-year-old teen named Christos Themelis Jr. killed his parents in their home and engaged in a gunfight with law enforcement officers. The shootout resulted in the death of the teenager.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the horrifying sequence of events began with a "frantic" 911 call from Themelis Jr.'s mother, reporting that her son had just shot her husband. The responding deputies arrived at the residence shortly after 11 p.m.

Disturbingly, as the officers were present on the scene, Themelis Jr. fatally shot his 51-year-old father inside the home and then proceeded to shoot his 48-year-old mother on the front lawn, in the presence of the officers. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.

In the chaos that ensued, the assailant turned his weapon towards the law enforcement officers and opened fire. Deputy Shane McGough, 26, was struck in the leg during the exchange of gunfire. Thanks to the swift response of his colleagues, Deputy McGough received immediate life-saving measures before being rushed to a nearby hospital. He is currently in recovery from his gunshot wound.

Themelis Jr., after engaging in the shootout with four other deputies, retreated back into the house and barricaded himself inside. The situation escalated further as the SWAT team was called in to apprehend the teenager. Eventually, the team breached the house and discovered Himelis Jr. deceased, having succumbed to the injuries sustained during the shootout.

Calling Themelis Jr. a "monster," Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his deep concern and described the entire incident as "truly scary." The motive behind the horrific act remains unclear, and authorities continue to investigate.

As a result of this tragic event, the Hillsborough County community mourns the loss of two lives and wishes Deputy Shane McGough a full and speedy recovery.
