### Florida Teen Faces Felony Charge for Threatening Kamala Harris Supporters with Machete
An 18-year-old supporter of Donald Trump is now facing serious legal consequences after allegedly brandishing a machete at a Florida early voting site. Caleb James Williams has been charged with felony aggravated assault on a person aged 65 or older, as well as a misdemeanor charge for exhibition of a dangerous weapon, according to Neptune Beach police records.
Police Chief Michael Key Jr. stated that Williams, along with seven teenagers between the ages of 16 and 17, went to a library in suburban Jacksonville to "protest and antagonize the opposing political side." Carrying Trump flags, the group reportedly began shouting at a group of Kamala Harris supporters, escalating to the point where Williams allegedly threatened two women, aged 71 and 54, with a two-foot machete.
A witness captured a photo of Williams smiling while holding the machete in a threatening manner above his head, Key revealed. "This goes way beyond expressing freedom of speech. The moment you raise a machete over your head, you've crossed a line," he said. Neptune Beach, a community of approximately 7,000 residents with a median income of $110,000, was described by Key as normally peaceful.
Williams, who works as a restaurant busboy, was held without bond at Duval County Jail pending his initial court appearance. Attempts to reach his father were unsuccessful, and court records do not list any attorney information for him. In Florida, the minimum sentence for aggravated assault on a senior is three years in prison, with the maximum being 15 years.
While the seven juveniles accompanying Williams did not appear to commit any crimes, the investigation is still active, according to Key. Duval County Democratic Chair Daniel Henry condemned the act as an intimidation tactic. He emphasized that violence and intimidation have no place in democratic processes and advocated for peaceful and lawful civic engagement.
Dean Black, Duval's Republican chair, also thanked the police for arresting Williams but suggested that the broader political environment has contributed to heightened tensions. He mentioned that President Trump had survived two assassination attempts and criticized the harsh language used against Republican supporters by prominent Democrats.
In the wake of this incident, both parties are urging their supporters to remain calm and engage in respectful dialogue as the election period continues.
