**Florida Man Charged with Murder After Alleged Random Attack on Golfer**
In what authorities are describing as a senseless act of violence, a Florida man is facing first-degree murder charges for allegedly bludgeoning a golfer to death using the victim's own clubs at a public golf course. Junior Boucher, 36, is accused of killing 65-year-old Brian Hiltebeitel at the Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, approximately 16 miles northwest of West Palm Beach.
According to Palm Beach County Circuit Court documents, police reports state that Boucher brutally attacked Hiltebeitel with multiple golf clubs before submerging his head underwater. Major Javier Garcia from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department indicated that no apparent motive has been identified, suggesting the attack was a random act of violence.
Boucher was arrested at the scene on Monday and has since remained silent, refusing to speak with detectives without an attorney present. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office central jail later that evening. On Tuesday, County Judge Ted Booras appointed Boucher a public defender. Due to standard policy, the public defender's office has not commented on the ongoing case.
Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Dominick Pape mentioned during a news conference that Boucher had no discernible reason for being at the golf course, and it appears that he and Hiltebeitel were strangers. Police are still investigating leads and interviewing witnesses to gather more information.
Dina Lauro, Hiltebeitel’s girlfriend, expressed her shock and sorrow following the tragic incident. She described Hiltebeitel as an energetic and joyful person, sharing that they had moved to South Florida from Philadelphia.
The incident unfolded shortly before 1:30 p.m. when multiple 911 calls reported an attack on a man with a golf club. Responding officers discovered Hiltebeitel's body in a pond near the first hole of the golf course. Despite attempts to render medical aid, Hiltebeitel was pronounced dead on the scene, suffering from severe head injuries and multiple lacerations.
Witnesses recounted seeing Boucher attacking Hiltebeitel, initially striking him with a golf club near the first hole before continuing the assault into the pond. One witness reported hearing Hiltebeitel scream, "He's trying to kill me!" Boucher was eventually subdued and taken into custody after officers used an electronic control device.
The attack occurred on the same day Boucher's family reported him missing and filed an eviction notice against him. This was the second time his relatives had taken such legal action, with a previous eviction notice filed in 2018.
Boucher is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on December 26. The investigation into this tragic event remains ongoing as authorities seek to piece together a complete narrative of the day’s events.
