### Florida Attorney General Accuses FEMA of Neglecting Trump Supporters in Disaster Relief
In a lawsuit filed on Thursday, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has accused officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of deliberately neglecting hurricane victims who are supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
The lawsuit follows allegations that FEMA has shown bias against Republicans, diverting funds intended for natural disaster clean-up to other purposes such as housing migrants. According to a press release from Moody’s office, the complaint claims that FEMA instructed its current and former employees to "ignore" homes displaying Trump signs or flags when providing disaster relief.
Specifically, the lawsuit mentions that at least 20 homes in Lake Placid, Florida, which displayed Trump signs or flags, were overlooked for disaster relief services in October and November. This alleged negligence came in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, based on the guidance FEMA reportedly issued.
Despite these claims, newly gathered data shows that Florida has received more FEMA direct relief dollars than any other state since 2015. This influx of funds underscores the significant financial needs of Floridians following major storms, such as Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The lawsuit brings to light contentious issues surrounding federal disaster relief efforts and the impact of political bias on the distribution of aid. The numbers also highlight the critical support that FEMA has provided to Florida amid frequent and devastating natural disasters.
