In a shocking turn of events, Kentucky State Police have arrested five individuals, including the parents and grandparents, in connection with the disappearance of an eight-month-old baby, Miya Tucker Rudd. The infant has been missing since the beginning of May, and efforts to locate her have thus far been unsuccessful.
The authorities declared Miya missing on Thursday after conducting a search warrant and welfare check at the family's residence in Reynolds Station, Ohio County. Unfortunately, no trace of the child was found. Reynolds Station, located approximately 90 miles southwest of Louisville, has been gripped by the distressing news.
Miya's mother, Tesla Tucker, 29, and her father, Cage C. Rudd, 30, were apprehended at a motel in Owensboro on Wednesday. Upon their arrest, law enforcement discovered a substantial amount of drugs, including fentanyl. The pair provided no information on the whereabouts of their missing daughter, prompting suspicions and hindering the investigation.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King expressed disappointment with the lack of cooperation from Miya's parents, stating, "[We] tried to interview the parents, and they're not being very cooperative with our investigation on this." Investigators continue to work tirelessly to uncover any leads that may lead them to the location of the missing child.
Further arrests were made in relation to the case. Ricky Smith, believed to be the missing girl's grandfather and a resident of the family home on Deanfield Church Road, was taken into custody. Authorities allege that Smith had been utilizing the premises as a base for drug trafficking. During a search of the property, various illicit substances were seized. Smith faces charges of drug crimes, child abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Miya's grandmother, Billie J. Smith, 49, was also arrested and charged with second-degree domestic violence assault. This arrest came about after police discovered an outstanding warrant for Smith from October 2023 in Daviess County.
Additionally, Timothy L. Roach was taken into custody by police. Roach was apprehended after throwing un-prescribed Suboxone under his vehicle. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prescription controlled substance not in a proper container.
Authorities have revealed that Miya had not been seen by other family members for several weeks prior to her disappearance. Kentucky State Police have intensified their efforts by deploying a team of cadaver canines to search a wooded area and a church along Hardin Lane in Ohio County.
Child protection services first initiated the search for Miya and subsequently alerted the police when their attempts to locate her were fruitless. This led to the subsequent arrests, starting with Miya's parents, who were found in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine at the motel.
Both parents, Tesla Tucker and Cage Rudd, have been charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, abandonment of a minor, and child abuse. Notably, Rudd already had a criminal record, having been convicted of two drug offenses, including methamphetamine possession, in March. He was serving a year's supervised release at the time of his daughter's disappearance, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
As the search for Miya Tucker Rudd continues and investigators unravel the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, the community remains in anguish, hoping for her safe return.
