### Federal Judge Orders Giuliani to Hand Over Luxury Assets to Defamed Election Workers
In a significant legal development, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been instructed by a federal judge in New York to surrender his luxury New York City apartment and several valuables to two Georgia election workers he defamed. U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman issued the directive, mandating Giuliani to transfer a range of personal properties into a receivership within seven days.
The decision comes after Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, sought to seize Giuliani’s assets last August. The mother-daughter duo was awarded $146 million in damages last year following a ruling that found Giuliani had repeatedly defamed them by falsely accusing them of election fraud after the 2020 presidential election.
Judge Liman granted Freeman and Moss the right to utilize a receiver to sell off Giuliani's assets efficiently. This move aims to ensure the swift liquidation of the assets while maximizing their sale value, thus increasing the likelihood of satisfying the judgment awarded to the plaintiffs.
Among the valuable items Giuliani must turn over are his Madison Avenue co-op apartment valued at $5.7 million, a collection of luxury watches, a signed Joe DiMaggio jersey, and a 1980 Mercedes previously owned by actress Lauren Bacall. However, certain items like his three New York Yankees World Series rings were excluded from the judge's decision due to a claim by his son, Andrew Giuliani, that the rings were gifted to him by his father. Additionally, claims involving Giuliani's Florida condo will be addressed at a later date.
Aaron Nathan, an attorney for Freeman and Moss from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, welcomed the decision. He emphasized the significance of the ruling, stating, "We are proud that our clients will finally begin to receive some of the compensation to which they are entitled for Giuliani's actions." Nathan further remarked that the outcome serves as a powerful message about the consequences of deliberately spreading disinformation.
NBC News reached out to a representative for Giuliani for comment, though a response has not been provided at this time.
