Federal Investigation into Matthew Perry's Death Could Result in Charges, Says Law Enforcement Source

In a recent development, a federal investigation into the death of actor Matthew Perry last year may lead to charges against several individuals, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the probe. The investigation, which began in May, involves the Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration as they work together to determine the source of the ketamine that was found in Perry's system prior to his death on October 28th.

The federal probe is currently ongoing, and no immediate action is expected to be taken in the case, as reported by People magazine. Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom "Friends," was discovered unresponsive in his home swimming pool, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.

The cause of Perry's death was determined to be the acute effects of ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the presence of buprenorphine, a synthetic opioid used in the treatment of opioid addiction. The medical examiner's report revealed that Perry had been open about his history of drug use, but had reportedly been sober for 19 months leading up to his death.

Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to address his depression and anxiety, with his last treatment occurring approximately 1½ weeks prior to his passing, according to the coroner's findings. However, it remains unclear why levels of ketamine in his body were elevated, as the drug typically metabolizes within a few hours.

In addition to the federal investigation, local authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department are also looking into Perry's death. The continuous investigations aim to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his tragic passing.

As the investigations continue, it is anticipated that the authorities will uncover more details regarding the source of the ketamine found in Perry's system and determine if any charges are warranted in connection with his untimely death.
