Federal agents from the FBI are actively searching for a 14-year-old girl from Utah who went missing while visiting family in Mexico. Elizabeth Gonzalez, also known as Ely, disappeared on June 30, after being in the country for about two weeks.
The FBI was alerted about the disappearance on July 1, and subsequent investigations have revealed surveillance footage showing Gonzalez getting into a taxi in Mexico City on the day she vanished. Special Agent Steve Hymas from the FBI's violent crimes department in Salt Lake City believes that an adult may have manipulated Gonzalez into getting into the taxi.
While authorities are currently treating this as a missing persons case rather than a kidnapping, they are working diligently to locate Gonzalez, who is believed to still be in Mexico. The FBI has described her as a 5'1" tall, White-Hispanic girl weighing 140 pounds with brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a black hoodie, and black and white Van sneakers.
The FBI is urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Elizabeth Gonzalez to contact them immediately. The search effort is underway in both the United States and Mexico, as authorities remain hopeful for her safe return.
The family of Gonzalez is anxiously waiting for any updates and have requested the public's assistance in finding their loved one. The investigation into her disappearance continues, as law enforcement agencies work together to gather any potential leads.
As the search intensifies, the FBI is hopeful that the cooperation of citizens will yield crucial tips or information that can help bring Gonzalez back home to her family.
