In the early hours of Saturday, a tragic shooting incident unfolded at the H2O Lounge in west Louisville, resulting in one person dead and seven others wounded, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

At approximately 12:47 a.m., police received reports of gunshots at the club located on 25th Street and Broadway. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. LMPD immediately provided first aid to the first victim, identified as 40-year-old Joseph Bowers from Indianapolis. Regrettably, Bowers succumbed to his injuries on-site. The second victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the UofL Hospital in critical condition, with authorities deeming the injuries as potentially life-threatening.

As authorities continued their investigation at the crime scene, it was later revealed that an additional six victims had independently sought treatment at local hospitals. Fortunately, these individuals are expected to survive. The police are currently uncertain about the relationship, if any, between the victims.

The LMPD Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation into this incident; however, no arrests have been made thus far. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg took to social media platform X, urging anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward with information. He expressed his concerns over the recent surge in gun violence, with this incident marking the third shooting involving six or more victims in the past six weeks.

The mayor called for greater efforts to curb gun violence and emphasized the dedication of the LMPD in apprehending those responsible. Anyone in possession of relevant information is encouraged to contact the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or utilize the online LMPD Crime Tip Portal.

This distressing incident echoes the shooting on May 11, where four individuals were shot, resulting in two fatalities at a bar in the Southland Park neighborhood. Additionally, on June 2, a parking lot party on Raggard Road turned violent, leaving seven victims injured, most of whom were minors.

The community remains shaken by these incidents, prompting a call for collective action to address gun violence in the city. The LMPD and local authorities continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of the residents of Louisville.
