The Atlanta Falcons recently wrapped up their selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, bringing in eight promising rookies. However, the grades given by national analysts have left many with raised eyebrows.

According to Reuter's analysis, the Falcons' overall grade for their draft class is a C+. The selection of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at the eighth pick raised some confusion, considering the team's recent investment in Kirk Cousins during the offseason. While Penix possesses a strong arm and accurate passing, concerns over his injury history remain. Trading up to acquire defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro was also seen as a reach, especially given the team's need at cornerback. On the positive side, cornerback Bralen Trice was considered a crucial addition to the team's defense.

Kiper's analysis gave the Falcons a C grade. He expressed surprise at the decision to select Penix, as it seemed the team had an opportunity to improve their defense with other highly regarded prospects still available. However, Kiper acknowledged that the team made better value selections in the later rounds, particularly with defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus and edge rusher Bralen Trice.

Trapasso's analysis mirrored the concerns raised by other analysts. He criticized the Penix pick and questioned the logic behind it. However, he also praised the selections of Trice and Dorlus as potentially the best value picks from the draft class.

Sikkema's analysis graded the Falcons with a C-. He too expressed astonishment at the choice of Penix, despite his impressive college performance. The trade up for Orhorhoro was deemed questionable, although Sikkema highlighted the player's athleticism and potential for development. Trice and Dorlus were regarded as the standout selections from the class.

Maaddi's analysis pointed out that the Penix selection was the most stunning pick of the entire draft, given the team's recent investment in Cousins. However, the acquisitions of Orhorhoro and Trice were seen as solid additions to strengthen the defense.

Kelly's analysis echoed the surprise over the Penix pick and acknowledged his potential as a future starter. However, the decision to pass on an immediate contributor was seen as a significant opportunity cost. Despite this, the additions of Orhorhoro, Trice, and Dorlus were praised for bolstering the defensive front.

Overall, the Falcons' draft class has received a mix of grades ranging from C+ to C-. While some analysts questioned the logic behind certain selections, there was recognition of the team's efforts to address defensive needs. Only time will tell if these picks prove to be successful in helping the Falcons achieve their goals on the field.
