In a rapidly developing incident, a third-alarm fire near the 5 Freeway in Gorman has forced evacuation orders on Saturday. The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported the fire at approximately 1:48 p.m., and within hours, the blaze grew to over 2,000 acres.

As of now, evacuations are in effect for Pyramid Lake, Gorman Post Road, the Hungry Valley SVRA recreation area, and the surrounding communities. Authorities have taken swift action, shutting down the 5 Freeway in both directions at Quail Lake and Gorman Post Road to ensure the safety of motorists and emergency crews.

While containment efforts are underway, it remains unclear how much progress has been made in controlling the fire. Fortunately, no structures are currently threatened by the flames. However, the fire department emphasized that although the fire was initially reported on the side of the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, the freeway itself has not caught fire.

Heart-stopping footage captured by KTLA viewer Erika Layton-Reynolds showed a courageous helicopter pilot battling the flames on a hill adjacent to the 5 Freeway. The heroic efforts of these individuals in the face of danger are a testament to their unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

Gorman, a small unincorporated area in northwest L.A. County, is a popular pit stop for travelers along the 5 Freeway, providing essential amenities such as food and gas. The fire's proximity to this well-known rest area adds urgency to containment efforts, aiming to mitigate the impact on those passing through the area.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available. The safety and well-being of residents, commuters, and emergency personnel remain the top priority as crews work diligently to extinguish the flames.
