Former President Trump's son, Eric Trump, has fired back at President Biden after the Democrat dismissed concerns about the economy and made factually incorrect claims about inflation. In a post on X, Eric Trump called President Biden a "clown" in response to a report highlighting Biden's remarks.

During a rare interview with CNN's Erin Burnett on Wednesday, President Biden was questioned about low consumer confidence in the economy, including rising housing costs, declining real income adjusted for inflation, and weak economic growth since he took office. In response, Biden claimed that he inherited 9% inflation when he assumed office, which is not accurate. In reality, inflation stood at just 1.4% when Biden became president in January 2021 and rose to 9.1% by June 2022, 17 months later.

A White House spokesperson later defended President Biden's comments, stating that he did not mislead Americans and that the inflationary factors were already in motion when Biden took office. The spokesperson emphasized that the coronavirus pandemic played a significant role in the inflationary pressures.

President Biden also dismissed polls showing voter disapproval of his handling of the economy and attributed this sentiment to erroneous polling. He presented an optimistic view of the economy, claiming that it had already turned around and that Americans were "personally in good shape" economically.

However, a recent Gallup poll on the housing market contradicts Biden's assertion. The survey revealed that 68% of Americans expect home prices to rise further, and 76% believe it is a bad time to buy a house.

Biden's response to questions about inflation drew criticism from both Eric Trump and former Obama adviser and CNN political analyst David Axelrod. Axelrod described Biden's stance on the economy as a "terrible mistake" that could harm his chances in the upcoming election. He urged Biden to lead with empathy and acknowledge the challenges faced by Americans in relation to the cost of living.

As the debate continues, it is clear that concerns about the economy and rising inflation persist among the public. President Biden's assertion of a strong economy is being met with skepticism, and critiques from both political figures and polling data suggest that there is a disconnect between the president's perception and the experiences of many Americans.
