Elton John Reflects on Trump's "Little Rocket Man" Nickname and Advocates for Kindness in America

In a recent interview at the Toronto Film Festival, music legend Elton John shared his thoughts on Donald Trump coining the nickname "Little Rocket Man" for North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, a name Trump reportedly drew inspiration from John's hit song "Rocket Man." John, who laughed at the nickname, expressed his support for Trump and described the moment as "hilarious."

Having previously known Trump as a fan who attended his concerts multiple times, John thanked the former president for his support. Trump even had to explain the meaning of the nickname to Kim Jong Un, as the Supreme Leader wasn't familiar with the iconic "Tiny Dancer" singer. In a gesture of goodwill, Trump reportedly autographed an Elton John CD as a gift for Kim.

John, however, wasn't surprised that Kim Jong Un hadn't heard of him and had no plans to tour North Korea. He saw the nickname as a lighthearted moment and found it amusing. After the premiere of his Disney+ documentary, "Elton John: Never Too Late," the music icon subtly took a dig at Trump, mentioning that kindness should always prevail, expressing his hopes for the American election in November.

While John remains politically neutral and refrains from endorsing any political party, he emphasized the importance of voting for just causes, individual rights, and the importance of not letting others dictate one's identity. He stressed the significance of the forthcoming Supreme Court decisions and passionately called for a country characterized by love and acceptance.

The world premiere of "Elton John: Never Too Late" received a warm reception, evoking emotions from the legendary singer during the Q&A session. John revealed his desire for his legacy to be remembered as a great father and husband, rather than solely for his musical achievements. The documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler and John's husband David Furnish, chronicles John's journey to becoming one of the most prominent rock stars in history, showcasing iconic performances at Dodger Stadium and his final tour stop in North America.

Cutler praised the collaboration with Furnish, emphasizing how his intimate connection with John's story made him an invaluable partner in the filmmaking process. This deeply personal documentary is set for a limited U.S. theatrical run in November, followed by its release on Disney+ on December 13.
