The elderly person, accompanied by their adult child, had just arrived at the hospital when the thief seized the opportunity to jump into the vehicle and drive off, with the senior still inside, as per police reports.

The incident occurred on the 100 block of Irving Street at around 1:45 p.m. The stolen SUV eventually crashed into a building at the intersection of 6th and D streets NW, near the DC Court of Appeals, approximately 3 miles south of where the carjacking took place.

Fortunately, an officer witnessed the crash and immediately intervened. The officer apprehended the driver as they attempted to flee the scene. The suspect's name has not been released by the police.
