An 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Sen Kohli, died on Tuesday night following an alleged attack by a group of five school children in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester. The suspects, aged between 12 and 14, have been taken into custody by Leicestershire Police on suspicion of murder.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when Mr. Kohli, a well-known and respected figure in the community, was walking his dog at his usual spot in the park. According to reports, the young attackers assaulted him, kicking him in the neck and back. The elderly man was left in agony, screaming for help, as the group fled the scene.

Mr. Kohli's daughter, who witnessed the brutal attack, rushed to her father's side after he was found lying under a tree. Emergency services arrived and promptly took him to the hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.

Described as a kind and considerate man, Mr. Kohli had been living in the area for 40 years. He was known for his love of gardening and his allotment, where he grew amazing vegetables. Deep Singh Kalia, one of Mr. Kohli's neighbors, recalled their daily meetups and praised his character, stating that he was not a threat to anyone.

The news of Mr. Kohli's tragic death has deeply shocked and saddened the community. The case has now been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IPOC), as Mr. Kohli had previously been in contact with the police. Detective Inspector Emma Matts has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

As investigations continue, the scene at Franklin Park remains preserved. Leicestershire Police released a statement confirming the assault and the subsequent death of Mr. Kohli. Authorities believe that he was wearing a black jumper and grey jogging bottoms at the time of the attack.

The suspects, five children within school-going age, are currently being interviewed by the police. This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and the need for vigilance in public spaces. The loss of Bhim Sen Kohli has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, and the community mourns the loss of such a well-respected member.
