In a daring rescue operation, authorities from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, along with several other agencies, successfully saved eight teenagers who had ventured into an abandoned missile silo near Deer Trail. The incident took a dangerous turn when one of the teens fell approximately 30 feet, leaving them in critical condition.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office received a call around 3:30 a.m., alerting them to the trespassing situation at the silo located in the 82000 block of East County Road 22. Firefighters from South Metro Fire Rescue, Sable Altura Fire Rescue, and Deer Trail Fire Rescue also joined the effort to aid in the rescue.

Described as one of the most perilous operations in recent memory, the rescue teams faced numerous challenges during the mission. The abandoned silo, untouched since the 1960s, proved to be a treacherous and chaotic environment. Communication became a challenge with no cell reception within the confined space.

With great determination and skill, the rescue teams diligently searched for the trapped teens for nearly two hours. Their efforts were complicated by the hazardous conditions within the silo, including twisted metal, collapsed floors, and scattered concrete pieces.

After an extensive rescue operation, the critically injured teenager was successfully airlifted to safety via a helicopter that had been on standby at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that the teenager's condition is stable, and they are expected to survive.
