In a series of overnight drone attacks, both Russia and Ukraine engaged in aerial assaults, targeting each other's energy infrastructure. Ukrainian drones successfully struck power stations in Russia's Belgorod and Orlovsky regions, causing significant damage.

The first attack occurred in the early morning of July 29 at an electrical substation in Tomarovka, Belgorod. Reports from the independent Russian Telegram channel Astra revealed that the drones ignited a massive blaze, engulfing the power station. The Kremlin's Ministry of Defense claimed that it intercepted and destroyed over three dozen Ukrainian UAVs across multiple Russian regions, including 9 in Belgorod.

In a separate incident, another drone raid targeted a substation in Glazunivka, Orlovsky. The local governor confirmed that an anti-aircraft defense system was successful in destroying two UAVs, but the substation suffered damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either attack.

Ukrainian journalist Andrii Tsaplienko shared alleged images and details of the drone attack on the power substation in the Belgorod region through his own Telegram channel. The Ukrainian Air Force (UAF) claimed that their air defenses shot down nine Shahed-131/136 Russian attack drones during the early hours of July 29.

It is worth noting that Ukraine's military consultant warned about Russia's infiltration of Ukrainian military communications using a mobile app, allowing them to pose as Ukrainian soldiers. The consultant urged troops to remain vigilant.

Further information on the drone raids revealed that Russia deployed 10 Shahed-131/136 drones from Cape Chauda in Crimea. In addition, Moscow utilized warplanes to launch a guided airborne missile from the airspace of the occupied Donetsk region. The UAF stated that their anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups were mobilized to repel the air attacks. They reported shooting down the targets in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Kirovohrad regions.

The escalation of drone attacks between Ukraine and Russia showcases the mounting tensions between the two nations. Both sides are actively deploying their UAV capabilities, resulting in significant damage to critical energy infrastructure. The situation remains volatile, and it is crucial for international stakeholders to facilitate dialogue to de-escalate tensions and prevent further destruction.
