Former DeRidder Mayor Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship with Juvenile

DeRidder, Louisiana - Misty Roberts Clanton, who recently resigned as mayor of DeRidder, has been arrested by Louisiana State Police on charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. The arrest followed an investigation by the state police's Special Victims Unit, during which two juveniles, including the alleged victim, disclosed that Roberts had engaged in a sexual relationship with the juvenile.

Roberts, 42, was taken into custody on Thursday morning and was later released on $75,000 bond, according to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office jail roster. The arrest came as a shock to many in the community, coming just days after Roberts' resignation.

In a statement released by Adam Johnson, Roberts' attorney, he asserted her innocence and criticized the lack of communication from investigators prior to the issuance of the warrant. Johnson emphasized that Roberts has not been formally charged or convicted of any crime, reiterating her constitutional right to presumption of innocence.

The events leading up to Roberts' arrest have left the small town of DeRidder in a state of uncertainty. Last Friday, Roberts announced her temporary absence from office and appointed a mayor pro tem. However, the following day, she submitted her resignation, further fueling speculation among residents.

The Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit conducted interviews with two juveniles, including the victim, who both confirmed the alleged sexual relationship between Roberts and the juvenile while Roberts held the position of mayor. The investigation raises serious questions about the abuse of power and the safety of the community's most vulnerable individuals.

As news of the arrest spreads, many in the community are expressing their support for the alleged victim and their hope that justice will be served. The local authorities and legal system will now embark on a thorough investigation to determine the veracity of the allegations and the appropriate course of action.

For now, Misty Roberts Clanton, who once held a position of trust in DeRidder, must await her day in court to proclaim her innocence and address these serious charges. The future of the town remains uncertain as the community strives to move forward, grappling with the repercussions of this unfortunate ordeal.
