**Life Sentence Without Parole for David Wayne DePape Over Pelosi Home Attack**
David Wayne DePape was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole by a San Francisco judge on Tuesday morning. The ruling comes in connection with the kidnapping and other felony charges stemming from his attack on then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home two years ago. Judge Harry Dorfman declared that DePape, 44, will serve this life sentence concurrently with a 30-year sentence previously issued by a federal judge in May.
During the court proceedings, Christine Pelosi read a harrowing statement from her father, Paul Pelosi, who was viciously assaulted by DePape with a hammer. Recalling the events of October 28, 2022, Paul Pelosi described it as the last night he slept peacefully before the early morning intrusion, where DePape, repeatedly shouting "Where's Nancy?," stood over him. Paul conveyed the lasting trauma of that night, stating that the phrase still echoes in his mind.
DePape, a proponent of numerous conspiracy theories including "Russiagate," claimed he was on a "political mission" targeting Nancy Pelosi due to her stance on Donald Trump. When he couldn't find her, he resorted to attacking Paul Pelosi. Capitol police responded to the scene, but not before DePape inflicted severe harm by striking Paul in the head with a hammer. "I can't remove the stain in the front entryway where I bled," Paul Pelosi wrote, sharing his ongoing struggles with dizziness, vertigo, and a heightened sense of fear. This fear extends to other spouses of elected officials and has resulted in increased security measures for Nancy Pelosi.
The entire Pelosi family sought the maximum possible punishment for DePape, according to Christine Pelosi. In a notable contrast to his federal sentencing, where he issued an apology to Paul Pelosi, DePape adopted a different approach in Tuesday's state court hearing. He began his statement with, "9/11 was an inside job," and continued to present a series of conspiracy theories over the next hour. These included unsubstantiated claims regarding 9/11, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2020 election, alongside labeling those convicted for the January 6 events as "political prisoners." He also claimed to possess psychic abilities and alleged that his ex-wife, Gypsy Taub, had been replaced by a body double.
Judge Dorfman repeatedly asked DePape if he wished to speak on matters relevant to his charges, trial, or sentence, but DePape chose to focus on his conspiracy theories. "I did not hear any expression of remorse," Dorfman stated after DePape's lengthy remarks. "If you tried to persuade me in your remarks, Mr. DePape, you did not persuade me."
Deputy Public Defender Adam Lipson referenced DePape's diagnosis of schizotypal personality disorder, a condition affecting personal relationships and fostering distrust of others—an assessment made after the attack on the Pelosi home.
