In a bid to gather support and raise funds for his 2024 presidential campaign, President Joe Biden has enlisted the help of renowned late-night host David Letterman. The fundraiser, scheduled for July 29, will take place at the Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts home of a family friend, according to Hawaii Governor Josh Green.
The event will feature Letterman, President Biden, and First Lady Jill Biden, as they aim to bolster fundraising efforts in the final 10 days of July. This comes amidst growing concerns about Biden's candidacy, with prominent figures like George Clooney, director Rob Reiner, and author Stephen King calling on him to withdraw from the race following his lackluster debate performance on June 27.
Despite mounting pressure, President Biden remains resolute, asserting that he is the best person to defeat former President Donald Trump. Biden, currently recuperating from COVID-19 at his Rehoboth Beach home, emphasized the need for party unity and redirecting attention to Trump's agenda.
Expressing enthusiasm for hitting the campaign trail once again, Biden stated his intention to challenge Republicans' claims while highlighting his own record and vision for America. He reiterated his commitment to safeguarding democracy, protecting rights and freedoms, and creating opportunities for all.
Governor Josh Green, an ardent supporter of the President, is hosting the fundraiser. Although initially reported to be taking place at Green's own residence, he clarified that it would occur at a family friend's home. Green, who has known the Biden family for years, emphasized that the decision to continue or withdraw from the race ultimately rests with President Biden himself.
"We support the President, the V.P., and the Democratic Party, in good and tough times because he has been there for us as a family and a state," Green affirmed.
Despite doubts surrounding his candidacy, President Biden remains committed to his campaign and confident of victory, asserting, "The stakes are high, and the choice is clear. Together, we will win."
With the Letterman-headlined fundraiser and several other fundraising events scheduled for the end of July, the President seeks to rally support and dispel concerns among anxious donors about his performance and the future of the Democratic Party.
President Biden's resilience and determination to forge ahead in the race continue to drive his campaign efforts, even as calls for his withdrawal persist. Only time will tell how these fundraising initiatives will impact his electoral prospects and broader party support.
