Jang was reported missing on Sunday afternoon, having been last seen the previous night at a social gathering organized by his fraternity and a sorority. Witnesses stated that alcohol was present at the event. Search and rescue teams discovered Jang's body Sunday evening, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. Chief Charles Dennis of the Hanover Police Department has stated that foul play is not suspected.

However, following an anonymous email received by the college, police are now focusing on whether hazing played a role in Jang's death. Friends and classmates of Jang describe him as an "amazing guy" who always had a smile on his face. Kledian Marinaj, one of Jang's friends, shared that they were planning to meet up for a meal before the tragic news broke. Marinaj said, "We went on a walk, talking about all the great things about Won, about how he makes jokes and makes people laugh."
