In a shocking incident on Friday evening, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked on a square in the center of Copenhagen, leaving her office and the nation in shock. The assailant, a man who approached her and struck her, has been subsequently arrested.

The news of the attack quickly spread, with European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen condemning the incident as a "despicable act" that goes against the values cherished in Europe.

The Prime Minister's office released a statement confirming the assault and expressing Frederiksen's shock without providing further details. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the attacker and are currently investigating the incident.

Eyewitnesses recount the Prime Minister being escorted away from the scene, with one witness, Soren Kjergaard, a barista working on the square, mentioning that Frederiksen seemed a little stressed.
