### Damian Williams to Step Down as U.S. Attorney for Southern District of New York

Damian Williams, the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Southern District of New York, announced his planned resignation from his role as United States Attorney, effective from 11:59 p.m. on December 13, 2024. Following his departure, Edward Y. Kim, who is currently serving as the Deputy United States Attorney, will step in as the Acting United States Attorney.

In his statement, Williams expressed mixed emotions about his departure. He conveyed his sadness in leaving what he described as his "dream job" and a "beloved institution." He highlighted the exceptional public servants in the office, whom he called "the finest in the world," thanking them for their dedication and service. Williams expressed pride in leaving the office at a time when it is operating at an exceptionally high level, exceeding its standards of excellence, integrity, and independence.

His leadership also saw the Southern District of New York collecting $2,249,716,748.68 in criminal and civil actions, showcasing the office's effectiveness under his guidance.

Other significant appointments made by Williams included Andrea Griswold as Deputy United States Attorney and Margaret Garnett as Special Counsel. These strategic selections reflect his commitment to maintaining the high standards and effectiveness of the Southern District of New York.
