In a targeted and premeditated attack on law enforcement, a Dallas police officer was tragically killed while sitting in his squad car, with two other officers injured in the incident. The suspect, identified as Corey Cobb-Bey, approached Officer Darron Burks' parked patrol car on Thursday evening, recorded briefly on his cellphone, and then fatally shot Officer Burks through the driver's side window.

Speaking at a news conference, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia described the incident as an execution, dispelling any notion of an ambush. Officer Burks was targeted and murdered, leaving the law enforcement community devastated by the loss.

The attack unfolded when a dispatcher noticed an unusual transmission from Officer Burks' radio but received no response. Concerned for his well-being, other officers were dispatched to check on him. Meanwhile, Cobb-Bey retrieved a shotgun from his car and placed it on the roof of Officer Burks' patrol car.

Officer Jamie Farmer arrived at the scene and became the next target. Cobb-Bey fired at Officer Farmer, striking his leg, prompting Farmer to return fire while seeking safety. Cobb-Bey then grabbed the shotgun and fired again in Officer Farmer's direction as he ran across the parking lot. Next, Cobb-Bey attacked Officer Karissa David, shooting at her multiple times as she exited her squad car. David returned fire, but was struck in the face during the exchange of gunfire.

After fleeing the scene in his vehicle, Cobb-Bey was eventually located in Lewisville, where he confronted officers and aimed his shotgun at them. In response, six officers fired their weapons, striking Cobb-Bey multiple times and killing him instantly.

Chief Garcia stated that the investigation showed a clear premeditation behind the attack, stemming from resentment towards law enforcement. Cobb-Bey had approached an unmarked squad car a few days prior, questioning officers' presence and recording the encounter. Online, he shared his personal and professional difficulties and hinted at a forthcoming event.

Authorities have not discovered any connection between Cobb-Bey and Officer Burks, reinforcing the belief that this was a deliberate attack on all law enforcement personnel. It was revealed that Cobb-Bey had legally obtained the firearms used in the attack.

The Southern Poverty Law Center hinted at Cobb-Bey's possible affiliation with the Moorish sovereign citizen movement, a group that believes in individual sovereignty over governments and has been involved in violent encounters with law enforcement. The Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident, while the Dallas County district attorney's office will initiate its own investigation.

Officer Darron Burks, a recent addition to the police department, devoted approximately 17 years to teaching high school mathematics at Texans Can Academy in Dallas. Colleagues and students praised his commitment as an outstanding educator and mentor.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson expressed deep sorrow over the loss and highlighted Officer Burks' selfless dedication to improving the community and ensuring its safety. The tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis.

This devastating attack reverberates across the Dallas community, as the loss of Officer Darron Burks leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, colleagues, and the city he served diligently.
