In a recent development, the Dallas police have officially announced that they will not be charging Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott after he was accused of sexual assault in an alleged incident in 2017. The investigation has been closed, with the police stating that there was "insufficient evidence" to support the accusations.
Prescott's representatives have been notified about the accusations made by a woman in February this year. In response, Prescott has filed a lawsuit against the woman, claiming that she attempted to extort millions of dollars from him. According to Prescott's suit, the woman allegedly demanded $100 million, threatening not to press charges or make the allegations public.
The woman later filed a police report stating that the sexual assault took place seven years ago. However, the authorities have decided not to pursue charges against Prescott. The woman's lawyer commented that it is often challenging for victims to come forward after a long period, making it difficult to prosecute such cases.
Despite the police investigation finding no basis for criminal charges, the legal battle between Prescott and the woman continues. The woman initially filed a lawsuit against Prescott in March in Dallas County, which has now been re-filed in Collin County as a countersuit to Prescott's claims.
Prescott's attorney, Levi McCathern, expressed gratitude towards the authorities for their thorough investigation, stating that no evidence was found to support a criminal prosecution. McCathern condemned the woman's accusations as false and claimed they were brought up seven years later solely to benefit the accuser and her attorneys.
The ongoing legal proceedings have not affected Prescott's football career, as he recently signed a lucrative four-year deal worth $160 million with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.
As both sides continue to present their arguments in court, the outcome of the civil suits remains uncertain. The situation serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding cases of sexual assault and the challenges faced by all parties involved in seeking justice.
