Vice President Kamala Harris recently participated in her first media interview since becoming the Democratic presidential candidate. However, some critics are raising concerns about the interview, suggesting that the interviewer should have taken a tougher approach similar to a previous interview with former President Trump's running mate.

During the segment, CNN's Dana Bash interviewed Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The pre-taped interview, totaling approximately 26 minutes, aired on Thursday night. Harris faced questions regarding inconsistencies in her political record, personal attacks by Trump, and her plans for her first day in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, Walz was asked about comments he made on the campaign trail regarding his military service.

Critics argue that Bash should have employed a more rigorous line of questioning, as she had done in a previous one-on-one interview with GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance. Some commentators expressed disappointment that Bash did not pursue follow-up questions and allowed what they considered nonsensical answers to go unchecked.

Vanessa Santos, president of Renegade PR, criticized the lack of energy and pressing questions in the Harris-Walz interview, suggesting that voters could have learned more from the encounter. She highlighted the stark contrast in the fervent questioning Bash posed to Vance regarding his controversial remarks versus the less challenging approach taken during the interview with Harris and Walz.

In the interview, Bash challenged Walz about his statements regarding carrying weapons in war despite not being deployed to a war zone. The governor responded by expressing his pride in his extensive service to the country, both in the military and in public service. He emphasized that his record speaks for itself and that he speaks candidly, passionately addressing issues concerning children's safety in schools.

Meanwhile, during the interview with Vance, Bash questioned him extensively about his criticisms of Walz's military record and his previous comments about "childless cat ladies." Critics pointed out that Bash did not ask similarly hard-hitting questions during her interview with Harris and Walz.

Some critics argue that the interview fell short of addressing the issues Americans were eager to hear about. They cited an example where Bash asked Harris about a viral photo of Harris' niece watching her speech at the Democratic National Convention. While the conversation seemed light-hearted, some critics felt that substantive issues should have been the focus.

Michael Knowles, host of "The Michael Knowles Show," remarked that one's opinion of Bash's performance as a journalist would determine whether she did a good job or not.

As Vice President Harris continues her duties, the interview serves as an opportunity to reflect on the role of journalists and their responsibility to ask tough questions of political figures. Critics remind the public of the importance of robust journalism in holding elected officials accountable.
