In a recent update from Sac County, Iowa, County Attorney Ben Smith has confirmed that the death of David Schultz, whose body was found months after his truck was discovered on a rural county road, has been ruled as not a homicide by the Iowa State Medical Examiner. Additional information regarding the case is expected to be released later this week.

The disappearance of Schultz in November 2023 had sparked a widespread manhunt conducted by law enforcement and volunteer groups, capturing the attention of the trucker community online. It remains puzzling why Schultz's body was not recovered sooner, even though his truck was found in close proximity to the location where his body was eventually discovered on Union Avenue and 190th St in April 2024.

While preliminary autopsy results had previously revealed no signs of trauma or serious injuries, the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) had already stated that no foul play was suspected in Schultz's death. Despite these findings, Schultz's family and the United Cajun Navy, a volunteer search organization, have expressed skepticism regarding the medical examiner's conclusions.

The county attorney has refrained from disclosing the specific cause or manner of Schultz's death, emphasizing only that it was not a homicide. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation also confirmed that they will not be releasing the cause of death, citing that the ruling of non-homicide ensures there is no threat to public safety. Furthermore, the DCI announced the official closure of their case regarding Schultz's death.

With further details expected to be unveiled in the imminent press release, the community awaits a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding David Schultz's untimely demise.
