### Congressman Higgins Applauds Passage of the Social Security Fairness Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a significant legislative move, Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) cast his vote to pass H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act. The act aims to dismantle the federal regulations known as the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which critics argue are unfair.
For seven years, Congressman Higgins has championed this cause, and in September, he played a pivotal role by becoming the eighth signatory on the discharge petition that necessitated a House floor vote. Congressman Higgins also previously reached out to Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) of the House Ways and Means Committee and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) through letters to advocate for the bill's passage.
Reflecting on the success of the bill, Congressman Higgins stated, "Congress has frequently fallen short on the will of We, the People, but today was a step in the right direction in restoring righteousness." He criticized the longstanding unfulfilled promises in both the House and Senate to pass the Social Security Fairness Act, expressing his optimism with, "Today, we passed our bill. I now call on the Senate to take up our legislation and pass SSFA, on behalf of all Americans."
The congressman's dedication to this legislative effort underscores his commitment to addressing what he and many others view as injustices within the existing social security framework.
