In a star-studded event on Monday night, the "Comics for Kamala" fundraiser took aim at Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, delivering a series of biting roast jokes. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Cecily Strong led the charge, alongside California Representative Eric Swalwell, as they poked fun at Vance's appearance and political record.
Coming together with the help of three current and former SNL writers - Katie Rich, Josh Patten, and Pete Schultz - Strong opened the barrage of jabs with her witty sense of humor. "J.D. Vance looks like a composite of every guy that's called you a bitch on Bumble," she joked, much to the laughter of the audience. Reflecting on Vance's contradictory rhetoric, she quipped, "He's confusing because his rhetoric wants us to panic about immigrants, but his eyeliner wants us to panic at the disco."
Not missing a beat, Strong humorously highlighted Vance's connection to former President Donald Trump. "J.D. Vance has been such a mistake Trump keeps calling him Eric," she added. Trump himself did not escape the comedic slam, with Strong poking fun at his support for women's reproductive health by joking, "Trump wearing a maxi pad on his ear is the most support he has shown for women's reproductive health."
Speculation about Vance's future was also touched upon during the event. Strong mentioned concerns that Trump may be unhappy with Vance and considering replacing him, teasingly remarking, "But he better hurry because it's been six weeks." Vance's association with couches, albeit in a less-than-flattering context, was also playfully discussed.
The "Comics for Kamala" fundraiser, attended by big names such as Ben Stiller, Kathy Griffin, John Stamos, Nick Offerman, and Ed Helms, garnered impressive support with over $530,000 raised at the time of publication. Ed Helms added his unique style of humor to the event, joking about his appearance fee and urging everyone to contribute to the cause.
With the night filled with laughter and witty remarks, the "Comics for Kamala" fundraiser succeeded in raising funds while delivering a comedic roast that targeted Senator J.D. Vance and left the audience entertained.
